PinPow Animated Intro

Client

Shroudy Software

Woolley Studios partnered with the team behind PinPow to create a short animated trailer intro designed to capture the game’s fun, colourful, and energetic personality.

The goal was to create an animation that could work as a polished intro for presentations, marketing materials, and future promotional content. The final piece needed to feel true to the game’s existing world while adding a cinematic layer of charm, movement, and visual storytelling.

The Project

PinPow is a playful game with a bright fantasy-inspired style, expressive characters, and a pinball-driven concept. Our job was to take that energy and turn it into a short animated sequence that could introduce the world in a clear, exciting, and visually appealing way.

We developed a stylized animated intro featuring a character entering an attic, discovering the PinPow machine, and being pulled into the world of the game. The animation builds from a grounded real-world setting into a more magical, game-like reveal, ending with a colourful title moment that could connect naturally into gameplay footage.

Our Approach

We began by reviewing the client’s gameplay footage, rough storyboard, character assets, enemies, props, and existing visual references. From there, we created a storyboard and rough timing pass to establish the flow of the intro.

Once the structure was approved, we moved into design, animation, FX, compositing, and sound. The project included custom background design, character animation, title animation, teleportation effects, and a stylized 3D-assisted establishing shot that helped create smoother camera movement while still keeping the final look consistent with the 2D art direction.

Throughout production, we worked closely with the client to review each stage, make revisions, and adjust details such as the pinball machine design, attic environment, character outfit, timing, title treatment, and marketing-friendly export options.

We moved from storyboard and timing into background design, animation, FX, compositing, and final export options.

What We Delivered

The final delivery included:

  • A polished animated trailer intro for PinPow

  • A high-quality version with a solid background for easy viewing and sharing

  • A transparent version for future editing, compositing, and gameplay placement

  • A title/logo version that could be used over gameplay

  • Final working project files for future flexibility

This gave the client multiple options for using the animation across presentations, trailers, social media, and future marketing materials.

The Result

The finished animation gave PinPow a stronger visual introduction and helped turn the game’s core concept into a memorable animated moment. The client used the piece as part of their Full Indie presentation and responded positively throughout the process.

“This has been a smooth process so I’m definitely happy to recommend you to other developers I talk to or work with… You all did a great job — very happy with the end result.”

Why It Worked

This project was a strong example of how animation can help indie games feel more polished, memorable, and presentation-ready. By combining strong visual direction, clear communication, quick iteration, and flexible delivery formats, we created a piece that could support both the immediate presentation and future marketing needs.

For indie developers, a short animated intro can do more than make a game look good. It can help explain the tone, create excitement, and give the project a stronger identity before the audience even sees gameplay.
